NCHS Advisory Activity: Welcoming the Year of the Tiger

Raye Park, Mikey Pierog, and Alyssa Chang February 8, 2022
Over the past month, the National Chinese Honor Society (NCHS) promoted Lunar New Year culture throughout campus. Posters featuring this year’s zodiac animal, the tiger, adorned the halls. Not only this; NCHS brought Lunar New Year to the DIS classrooms during advisory period – a great opportunity to learn more about this Eastern holiday culture.

Raye Park, Mikey Pierog, and Alyssa Chang February 6, 2022
2021 is gone – and good riddance! 2022 is here, and we’re kicking it off with a fresh start. People are beginning their new year’s plans and wishlists, or even pursuing their ambitions with the encouragement of new beginnings. Here are five new year must-dos that I suggest, just in case you’ve got nothing in your mind.

School Calendar is a Collaboration of Cultural Celebrations

Despite some students complaining that we don’t get enough days off for some of the smaller Korean holidays, DIS actually gives more or less the same amount of breaks as other international schools around the Korean peninsula. The source of the misunderstanding stems from the fact that in general, our breaks are longer and less spread out: we get lengthier breaks during Chuseok and Spring Break, as well as American Thanksgiving where we take two full days off for this occasion, while other international schools only give either one day (or even less, as a half-day) to celebrate.
