As the final year at DIS came to a close, seniors gathered on the futsal field for the Senior Sunset to reflect on their high school experience and spend time with classmates through games, dinner and activities on June 2 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The event continued a new tradition that began earlier this year with the Senior Sunrise. 12th graders Chloe Cho and Christine Mason organized the gathering to provide one final opportunity for the seniors to connect before graduation. “We were thinking of doing the senior sunset ever since we got the idea of senior sunrise,” said senior Christine Mason. “We also wanted to make our senior year special by ending it with a sunset.”
The get-together came to life through the support of several administrators. Mrs. Ringrose and Mrs. Prestia offered the sweet treats for the students to enjoy, and Dr. Willette, Mr. Jolly and Mrs. Jolly organized the barbecue dinner and supervised the event throughout the evening.
The event commenced with a game of tag before the graduates convened for a mocktail toast. During dinner, students shared memories from their years at DIS and spoke with classmates and teachers.

Following the meal, students captured the moment on camera as the sun set over the field. They then competed in activities like charades and Guess the Character.
The celebration wrapped up with a water fight. As students ran across the field and soaked one another, the competition turned into one of the most remarkable moments of the evening. “My favorite part was spraying water on the team that lost charades,” said a 12th grade participant Amy Shim.
Seniors expressed satisfaction and gratitude toward this unique tradition. “I had a lot of fun with my friends. I hope this event takes place again for next year’s seniors,” said 12th grade Ryan Chae.
Some students also suggested ways to improve future gatherings. “I think we could make the mini games more organized; we were planning to play tag, duck duck goose, and sharks and minnows but ended up playing mafia instead because kids didn’t want to run,” said Shim. “So maybe ask for opinions earlier.”
The Senior Sunset marked the final event for the class of 2026 before graduation. The evening allowed them to reflect on their high school journey and bond with each other before they embark on their next chapter. “I had an amazing time planning and getting the senior sunrise and sunset ready, and made so many good memories that I’ll never forget,” said Mason.
