The Elementary School Student Council (ESSC) hosted its first Ultimate Treasure Hunt on April 30. With various games and activities, the event brought together twenty students from third to fifth grade for an afternoon of teamwork and friendly competition.
Inspired by The Amazing Race, a TV show where teams race around the world to complete challenges and puzzles, the ESSC put their own spin on the traditional treasure hunt. They packed the afternoon with a series of mini games and grouped students into teams of four to compete for the “ultimate treasure”.
The hunt featured a variety of activities, including water balloon tosses, where participants carefully passed balloons back and forth without bursting them, and Cookie Face, where students raced to move an Oreo from their forehead to their mouth using only facial movements.
“I really enjoyed the water balloon activity because I felt refreshed when the balloon burst and splashed water on my face. I would rate the ultimate treasure hunt as 9 out of 10,” third grader Justin Lee said.
Despite minor hardships, teacher assistance played a major role in smooth event coordination. “It was hard to manage all the different supplies and materials just because we had so many different games,” ESSC advisor Ms. Dennard said.
Overall, the activities served as an opportunity for the young participants to learn important teamwork and cooperation skills, and the ESSC hopes to continue the tradition in the following year. “I would love to host this event again next year, and we would work to introduce newer and more challenging games,” Ms. Dennard said.
