DIS hosted the first-ever SKAC badminton tournament in the Jetnasium on Saturday, May 27. Instead of dividing teams by schools, all individuals squared off against each other regardless of their home court, following an ‘every man for himself’ style of play.

DIS players met bright and early at 7:30 in the morning to play against each other and set scores for in-house games. Then the official tournament with all the other SKAC schools began around 9 a.m and ran until 6:30 in the evening. Players competed in categories based on their grade (middle/high school) and gender to determine the ultimate champion.

At the end of the day, FPS (Fayston Preparatory of Suji) stole the show with nine awards. But our middle school Jets brought fine play to the court. Becky, Mika, Jason, Lian, Matthew, and Alex won a total of six medals, and Becky even earned second place amongst high schoolers despite the age gap.

This year’s badminton tournament opened up the field for various athletic activities within our school. This addition will bring heightened excitement and challenges to our sports department for years to come.
