After KISAC stunner, girls fall short at SKAC

The Jets varsity girls’ futsal team traveled to the International School of Busan (ISB) for the SKAC (Southern Korean Activities Conference) finals on May 23. The team started off with twelve players, but due to injuries, only ten took part in the tournament. Although the quality of their play dipped from their silver medal performance at KISAC (Korean International Schools Activities Conference), they finished the season in third place.

Middle school girls’ basketball traveled to Busan Foreign School (BFS) to contest for the SKAC trophy on May 22. The eighth graders let out everything they had for the finale of their middle school career. Leveled up from KISAC, the squad started strong and confident but lost control under pressure.

Boys call the shots, girls undergo growing pains

The DIS basketball elementary rookies gathered at the Jetnasium for the SKAC Divisionals on May 4. They looked to challenge their limits against other athletes from across the country. Four teams attended the tournament: DIS, International School of Busan (ISB), Busan Foreign School (BFS), and Handong International School (HIS).
After a steal, Juan Cortez (number 19) goes for a fast break and pushes towards the basket. HIS defender hustles back and attempts a hard block. Juan manages to shoulder the opponent and go up for a strong layup.

Varsity basketball seizes the crown in Gyeongnam

The Jets high school boys’ basketball team visited the Gyeongnam Samcheonpo gym for the SKAC Finals hosted by Gyeongnam International Foreign School (GIFS) on Feb. 28. Seven varsity and JV teams crashed down for an intense day of competition: DIS, GIFS, Busan Foreign School (BFS), International School of Busan (ISB), Handong International School (HIS), Atherton International School (AIS), and Global Prodigy Academy (GPA).
All-star player Apple Jun zooms past the D for a layup. The turnover narrows the score gap between the two teams. It serves as a stepping stone for a chance to win the match.

Basketball Jets clinch third in SKAC for two consecutive years

The high school girls’ basketball team traveled to Gyeongnam International Foreign School (GIFS) to end their season at the SKAC (Southern Korean Activities Conference) tournament on Feb. 28th. Varsity came close in the semis, but some missed shots and a lack of foul calls in the last minutes halted their advancement to the finals. As a result, both varsity and junior varsity (JV) teams came short with a bronze.
The middle school girls hold their trophy with pride. Their hard work and effort pays off.

Girls’ varsity volleyball secures SKAC trophy amidst player shifts

The middle school girls ventured to Busan Foreign School (BFS) for the Southern Korean Activities Conference (SKAC) volleyball finals on Feb. 26th. Varsity showcased remarkable effort and teamwork and clinched the coveted trophy, while the junior varsity (JV) team navigated an emotional journey and placed fourth. DIS sportsmanship knew no bounds, as the Jets helped fill the rosters for teams from smaller SKAC schools. 
Seniors Alex Lee and David Cho wear Korean traditional clothing and surprise judges and spectators. Their attires align with their project on Yutnori, a Korean traditional board game.

Science enthusiasts from all over the nation gather for the secondary SKAC STEM Fair

Middle and high students from various schools of the Southern Korean Activities Conference (SKAC) gathered at DIS to participate in the final round of the STEM Fair on Dec 2. This year’s fair occurred in-person after long years of virtual fairs. Through winning individual school competitions, researchers received qualification to progress to this final event. DIS contestants who secured at least second place in their respective categories earned the ticket to participate in the competition.
The starch experiment gains popularity as students wait for their turn to give it a go. The line gathers a whole crowd of elementary school students.

Elementary students participated in the first round of the Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Fair at DIS on Nov. 9. After a long day of judging, four nominated winners, fourth-graders Arthur Silva and Stella Park, and fifth-graders Daniel Kim and Gaby Kim, progressed to the SKAC finals at Gyeongnam International Foreign School (GIFS) on Nov. 29.
Yul Sakong in seventh grade sprints down the trail, neck and neck with a rival from Atherton International School (AIS) and closely followed by more competitors.

Jets go full throttle for cross country finals

DIS runners traveled to Busan for the Cross Country Finals on Wednesday, Oct. 22. Nine total schools gathered for the conclusion of the season at the International School of Busan (ISB). Elementary, middle, and high school athletes all assembled for three hours of races.

First round STEM Fair serves as launchpad for a chance at SKAC

Middle and high school Jets demonstrated their knowledge at the annual STEM Fair on November 9th. In this showcase of academic research, students researched, conducted experiments, and proved their hypotheses on display boards and exhibits. Grades 6 to 12 submitted around eighty projects in categories ranging from mathematics to engineering.
