#TikTokraisedme

Korean elders often berate Gen Zers about their overzealous K-pop culture, headphones plugged in at work, and a nonstop cascade of TikTok trends. Over the past few decades, the nation experienced a massive shift in wealth and development, and this continuous change accentuates the gap between the younger and middle-aged population. Experienced employees complain that new hires lack discipline and respect for veterans, and adults frown upon students in rolled-up skirts, eyes fixated on screens.

To kick off the new sports season, the boys basketball team drove across town for their first matchup at Daegu Middle High School (DMHS) for a friendly on December 12th. Due to more experience from their previous six bouts, the DMHS squad held the upper hand. Regardless, the Jets looked to start off strong and take the win.

With global travel rules back to pre-pandemic normal, the first live National History Day contest since COVID took place at the University of Maryland, College Park, during the final week of the 22-23 school year. Twelve middle and high school students from DIS joined to partake in the international competition and interact with individuals from all over the world. This year’s theme, Frontiers in History, challenged DIS classmates to above and beyond.

Students collaborated and competed in the field day event right before summer break to celebrate the end of the year. Mr. Archer organized the contest for Jets to have a splash of fun with various sports and games including ‘sponge relay,’ ‘ultimate four square,’ and ‘capture the flag.’ Middle and High schoolers cooled off from the stress of final assignments and exams. Here are the highlights from the big day.

If the world was coming to an end, how would you spend your final 24 hours?

Sophie Lee, Elizabeth Ryu, and Jodie Lee October 6, 2022
Have you ever wondered if the world would end someday? If it were to happen, I would probably spend the rest of my time with my family or attempt things that I’ve only imagined in my wildest dreams. Countless people have contrasting opinions on what an ideal last day on Earth would look like. So I set out on the DIS campus and asked a variety of people on what they would do if they only had 24 hours left until the world would end. Let’s take a look at some of their answers.
