Middle and High School Students Cap Off the Year with the Spring Fine Arts Festival

DIS hosted the Middle/High School Spring Fine Arts Festival to commemorate the end of the year. For this event, students in art and music classes prepared performances and displayed the projects that they perfected during second semester. Hiking Shoes and Nylon Pants Make a Break in the World of Fashion

An ambiguous fashion trend, the Gorpcore aesthetic, often leaves style aficionados confused on a starting point. “What’s good as an introduction to Arcteryx?” is currently the most reposted, hot-topic question on various online fashion communities. Becoming a mainstream trend usually takes time, but with the changing lifestyle that came with COVID-19, the trend of “gorpcore” is spreading like wildfire.

Crowds Stampede for Luxury Goods in “Open-Run” Phenomenon

Helen Rho, Jade Lee, and Alyssa Chang January 20, 2022
Standing in line for a Chanel bag in an air-conditioned mall has become a way to beat the heat, instead of traveling overseas for some relaxation and summer fun. Running has increased as part of daily life for many Koreans, but not exactly for fitness reasons. A herd of people lead you to the place where you would least expect to see a large group of sprinters: a department store.  It’s common to see long lines in front of luxury brand boutiques like Chanel, Hermes, and Rolex. Given long wait times, queuing up in line can even be considered a lucrative side hustle (in Korea, at least). Part-time line-holders receive 100,000 won per session and up to a 300,000 won finder’s fee if they manage to buy the item the client wants.  South Korean consumers lined up in front of major department stores in Seoul before opening hours. The customers rushed to buy Chanel bags in the run-up to notable price hikes, in what local media outlets called an “open-run” phenomenon.

Puffer Jacket 101: The Ultimate Guide to Choosing the Perfect Outerwear

Helen Rho, Jade Lee, and Alyssa Chang January 16, 2022
Trends nowadays with padded jackets show many items that change the structural or minor details of the jackets themselves, while the brand's identity or graphics remain in the intuitive visual part. It can then be inferred that the next padded jackets to be introduced to the general public will include colorful details: a pattern on the fabric itself used on the front board, a specific shape quilted in, or changes in the print or material of the jacket itself. These looks might feel less casual, but the designer touches add a certain mood to the clothing easily, while also making them the next items to be hyped up in the fashion world.
