When we find downtime in our daily routines, we tend to spend it in an interesting place. It’s nice to cozy up in that certain spot around campus and catch up with each other or finish up some work. People prefer different places because of their personalities, interests, and their current moods. Everybody holds at least one place near and dear to connect with a buddy or just wind down and get some alone time. What is your favorite place to hang out at school?

Adam Garbout, Kindergarten
I like the ECC playground. The playground is very fun. I play there with my friends, and we run fast. We like playing “Monsters” together.

Lani Lee, First grade
The ECC futsal field, because I like to play here with my friends. It is very fun and we can play soccer together. I really like soccer because it is my favourite sport.

Hannah Makita, Third Grade
The playground, because we can play hide-and-seek and use the slides. It’s one of the biggest playgrounds at DIS, and it’s colorful and blocks the sun. On my second day of school, I was scared to go down the slide, but my friend told me it was okay, and it ended up being really fun.

Emuujin Batbold, Third Grade
I like to hang out in front of the main entrance. It doesn’t have much sun or wind, and there are tables where I can sit, run around, and do cartwheels. I like it because I can see everything, and it’s easy to go into the school since the entrance is right there.

Ruby Kim, Fourth Grade
My favorite place is the basketball court because I enjoy playing basketball. I can also play volleyball and other sports there. Other places get crowded, and there isn’t enough space for sports that need a lot of room.

Rhea Ratliffe, Fifth Grade
The four square court, because I can play with my friends and let out my energy. I like playing four square, and I used to play soccer before switching to four square. It just feels good to hang out and have fun.

Anna Choi, Fifth Grade
The bench near the cafeteria. I don’t like sports, and my ankle is kind of injured. Most of my close friends don’t like running either, so we sit together. I can also see the cafeteria and the view outside.

Bibig Batbold, Seventh grade
I prefer hanging out in the library, quietly, that’s fine. This winter, going outside makes me feel cold and that is an uncomfortable feeling for me. The library gives my ears a break because there is no one screaming or talking loudly.
The variety of spots on campus matters to students. These places represent friendship, comfort, hobbies, and passions such as sports or reading. Kids relax and build connections during break time. Let us know your favorite hangout spot in the comments.

I didn’t know that there are so many different sports choices that we could pick in recess. I am also curious of the game called “Monster” because I never heard about it, but it sounds really fun.
