With extra work on his plate, Mr. Bergan juggles the classroom and his new position as athletic director. So far, the former baseball player is batting a 1000. “He led me down to the spot overlooking the river, I turned around, and he was down on one knee. I had no idea it was coming,” Mrs. Kaschub recalls the unforgettable memory of her proposal. “The ring was upside down,” she says.
Five teachers cozied up one Wednesday afternoon in November, filled with excitement to read a book about Korean culture. Fifth-grade teacher Ms. Morisette launched the Professional Learning Community (PLC), which is a book club with the goal of reading Korean literature (translated into English) and incorporating the texts within their classroom lessons. It consists of a cross-curricular group of teachers from elementary to middle and high school, all determined to give DIS students a sense of familiarity in classrooms.
Families poured onto campus for the first Back to School Night since the Before Times. The event was hosted at DIS on the evening of August 24. This continued tradition had halted for a while due to COVID, but finally, DIS was able to hold an open event for families to come to participate. With positive feedback from parents and students alike, the night was a great success. Mrs. Cameron proudly remarks that over 200 students and parents participated.
With their interests in teaching abroad set in stone, Mr. and Mrs. Rouse hopped on a flight to Korea last summer. They represent the newest addition to the elementary staff.
