Did you accomplish your goals for this school year?

Serena Travers and Raina Lee June 10, 2024
As another splendid school year draws to a close, we took the opportunity to revisit and check in with several members of our community who had shared their goals at the beginning of the year. Some found success, while others did not, but each and every one of them learned something through the process.
Some players argue that strategy and composure are key components of victory in a round of Rummikub. Freshman Jayden Hayward demonstrates just that when their turn to lay out some moves returns.

Luna Kang, Section Editor March 26, 2024
From middle and high school students to parents and teachers, a lively assembly of 48 players gathered in the heart of spring for the first-ever official Rummikub competition in the Jetnasium on March 23. Although the event was scheduled to end at 3 p.m., the contestants tested their luck and strategy until sunset.

What are your thoughts about 제사/Jaesa (Korean traditional memorial ceremony)?

Jayden Ahn, Writer February 1, 2024
Jaesa, a time-honored family ceremony in Korea, serves as a heartfelt tribute to ancestors and past loved ones. While 40% of Koreans still embrace this deeply cherished tradition, its elaborate preparations can be perceived as burdensome in today's fast-paced world. So, we checked in with our DIS community for their takes on this ancestral custom.
Magician Hailie Han presents an ingenious trick to the crowd: from within an empty box, she reveals a heart towel. The shocked audience applauds time after time as Hailie reveals one move after another.

All teachers and students gathered in the Jetnasium for the annual Talent show on November 21st. In the limelight, members of the DIS community showcased songs, dance, and magic in a variety of genres outside of their studies. The recital consisted of 7 performances in total, plus a game of musical chairs, and a few bits of intermission entertainment. The big event took place in the fall semester for the first time ever.
The third-graders gleefully stick their tongues out.

Quirkiness crowded the campus hallways for Wacky Wednesday on Nov. 1. From mismatched clothes to goofy hairstyles, each dress-up triggered waves of laughter all around the school.

Trick or treat! All students, teachers, and staff members dressed up in their costumes to enjoy the spooky day of Halloween on Oct 31. The day ended with a cute elementary school parade and the annual group photo in front of the cafeteria.

To start off the Spirit Week, the DIS community celebrated Pajama Day on Oct. 30. Students arrived at school straight from bed as they filled the campus with lively sleepiness.

Meet the four square fanatics

Justin Huh, Dylan Wang, Luna Kang, and Leanne Yoon October 16, 2023
“Serve!” The lead player throws the ball to the person in the “King” square. With brilliant saves, dramatic bounces, and spin techniques, the hits go back and forth. The heated round continues until a player strikes the ball out. After a triumphant cry of victory and some disappointed groans of defeat, the game moves on to the next round. Check out the DIS Four Square fanatics; a squad of spikers that forge friendships and create rivalries on the court.

Wave to Earth launches a new era in North America

Nadia Woo, Dylan Wang, and Catherine Park October 11, 2023
Last winter, my friend and I traveled up to Seoul for a live show of a band I had never heard of, Wave to Earth. Tickets remained unsold until the day of the concert due to their low profile. We easily acquired seats near the stage without much competition, and after coming back from the show, I co-wrote a review with my friend, which you can read here.
