The laws of physics take down the pumpkins. “Splat!”

Mr. Cameron’s 11/12 Physics class held the annual pumpkin drop experiment behind the gym on Oct. 13. Mr. Cameron dropped three pumpkins from the dorm roof as elementary students and faculty members watched eagerly.

The spectacle mainly aimed to showcase physics in action. In preparation for the experiment, students marked the outside walls of the dorm building with detailed increments for every meter. They also set cameras at multiple angles to capture each drop. The novice scientists then graphed their observations using the information gathered on position and time. The model provided them with approximations of acceleration, an essential concept in physics.

At the end of the day, the demonstration gave an opportunity for the students to not only enhance their understanding of physics but also end their week on a fun, high note.
