[Photos] Rock Bands Rock Out at Lotte Outlet Mall

The DIS rock bands performed in front of a live audience at the Lotte Outlet Mall in Esiapolis on Tuesday, June 6th. Four total acts, Untitled Presentation, Juan’s solo, Chris and Ryan’s bass and drums duo, and Rewind, graced the circular stage in between the merry-go-round and Zara. Friends, family, DIS alumni, and hundreds of random Lotte shoppers supported our musicians.

Our bands desired more opportunities to perform to the public and showcase their talents. Mr. Hutchings said, “This year in rock band I was talking to my groups and the concept of busking came up. Kids wanted to go out and play live somewhere. The kids are just interested in playing out and doing some outside of school gigs, so we dubbed it the ‘Busking Event’ of this year.”

Mr. Hutchings wanted to provide off-campus work for the bands, so he helped organized this event. He said, “It’s actually a performance we did in the past, some years ago when Mr. Bae was the events coordinator here. He helped me set up a performance at Lotte. We called them up and said ‘Can we use that little circle stage to perform?’, they said ‘yes’ so we just went over there during ASA time that year and did a show. So, I remembered the Lotte performance we did in the past. I contacted Ms. Sumin and she contacted Lotte mall to see if we could do it. And they said ‘yes’.”

Thanks to Ms. Sumin and Mr. Hutchings the students’ wishes came true. The day reached high temperatures, both literally and figuratively. Rock band members expect more opportunities for off-campus shows next school year.
