The Jets Flyover staff heads to the Fall Journalism Education Association/National Scholastic Press Association National High School Journalism Convention at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville, TN, held Nov. 13 to Nov. 16. With training sessions from professionals, workshops, presentations, keynote speeches and on-site media competitions, the staff will gain networking opportunities with 6,000 fellow student journalists, advisers and university recruiters from around the world.
Flyover Editor in Chief, Leanne Yoon adds to the global connections the convention offers. “NSPA is a really good opportunity for our staff because as a publication in Korea, this is almost the first opportunity that we’ve had to legitimately connect students with the wider journalism community and also learn a lot beyond what’s in our staff manual,” she said.
After a rigorous selection process, Yoon earns the honor of presenting at three separate workshops. “I’ll be presenting three sessions at the convention, and they’re on middle school journalism and getting readership, and also localizing news stories. I feel like it’s a super good opportunity for me, and I really didn’t expect to get all three accepted, which is a really exciting opportunity for me,” said Yoon.
Check the Flyover in weeks to come as updates on the results of Yoon’s workshops and the contests and competitions students will participate roll in.
