Students collaborated and competed in the field day event right before summer break to celebrate the end of the year. Mr. Archer organized the contest for Jets to have a splash of fun with various sports and games including ‘sponge relay,’ ‘ultimate four square,’ and ‘capture the flag.’ Middle and High schoolers cooled off from the stress of final assignments and exams. Here are the highlights from the big day.

Revisiting the Dungeons

Nexon, one of the three largest game companies in Korea (the others being NCsoft and Netmarble), started outperforming the other two recently. Starting from KartRider Rush+, the mobile version of the popular Korean game KartRider, and now Dungeon & Fighters M, a mobile remake of one of the most popular RPG franchises in Korea, Nexon is slowly starting to dominate the video game industry in the peninsula.

I sometimes think about what it would be like to be stuck at sea. Raft will meet all of your needs for a survival game. The story is simple: In 2023, the Australian continent sank due to global warming, and by 2028, every major landmass on Earth is practically underwater. Other than a few leftover islands, nothing is left, and the main character(you), drifts away on a raft, trying to salvage whatever is left.

In 2018, Among Us changed gaming history. Though it wasn’t that popular upon release, it quickly gained traction during quarantine. Since many people couldn't leave the house or hang out with their friends, online multiplayer games like Among Us were perfect for maintaining connections. Unfortunately, various bugs, players with bad manners, and cheaters made the player’s experience worse. People eventually got tired of Among Us, but after 3 years, a new contender appeared in the murder mystery genre: Goose Goose Duck.

It’s time to duel! Any kid from the early to mid 2000s knows that line from the television show, Yu-Gi-Oh. Many years after Yu-Gi-Oh’s first introduction, fans still showed enthusiasm toward the franchise, prompting Konami to release an online Yu-Gi-Oh themed game, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links. Years after Duel Links, the sequential Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel made its way to the scene, fully satisfying devoted followers of Yu-Gi-Oh.

Netflix original “Arcane” has taken the world by storm, dethroning “Squid Game” as the hottest show on the platform. According to IMDB, it currently stands as Netflix’s best-rated series of all time with a score of 9.3 out of 10, while also receiving a 100% on critic’s review on Rotten Tomatoes. “Arcane” might be the ultimate cursebreaker, ending the notorious trend of terrible shows based on video games.
Korean fans express resentment towards the poor customer service of NCSOFT in front of the Korean National Assembly (Courtesy: DailyCNC). Fans complained that, "while customers pay in cash for the new update, the refund was denied while the update disappeared." The final message that concludes the customer's argument states, "What the customers want is a responsible business."

The Doomed Lineage of Korean Video Games

Dongjin Kim, Alyssa Chang, and Justin Park November 30, 2021
Who is to blame for the state of the domestic gaming industry? The culprits are the three largest game companies in Korea, also referred to as the 3Ns (Nexon, Netmarble, NCsoft). All three corporations are notorious for their greed for money. Like the other two Ns, NCsoft has posed great influence in the Korean game industry. Until the early 2010s, NCsoft was an upstanding company. They published a couple of respectable titles, like Blade & Soul and the PC Lineage series. However, after the grand success of the mobile Lineage franchise - Lineage M and Lineage 2M, things went downhill.
