Family Fun Night brings Jets together through friendly competitions

Elementary tradition returns despite two weather delays

Elementary girls reiterate their friendship as they compete against the other teams.

To strengthen bonds through fun and games, the Middle School Student Council (MSSC) and Mrs. Jolly invited all elementary schoolers and their relatives to Family Fun Night on Thursday, October 12th. Parents, students, and siblings came together as they rotated through stations, engaging in a multitude of activities ranging from intense rounds of crazy soccer to calm sessions of yoga.

With the variety of activities prepared, everyone found something enjoyable. “My favorite part is that one: pulling over the bed sheet, dance, and everything. Every game is very fun,” said Sowmya Krishna, parent to Lisha in Kindergarten.

The more action-packed games suited to the taste of others. “I like the soccer thing because I like soccer. We won most [of the soccer games],” said Jenny Kim in fourth grade.

Though the event flowed smoothly and well up to expectations, organizers of the event noted that they faced many roadblocks while preparing. Unexpected rainfall caused the most trouble, which forced deferral multiple times. “Since Family Fun Night got postponed a lot of times, we bought some snacks we could share with families, but then they expired. We had to throw them away,” said Michelle Doh, member of the MSSC.

Despite concerns and complications, family members showed support for the overall cause of the event. “DIS is good, cooperative with students. My daughter has good Korean friends here. They are very cooperative, and I love it,” said Krishna.

Jason Hong, parent to Brian in Kindergarten, also expressed the same view. “The best part, I think [is that] we can have a game with all your families and teachers all together, so they can be more familiar,” he said.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, Family Fun Night came to a close. The success of this event showcased the enthusiasm and creativity of Mrs. Jolly and the MSSC. Through the shared moments of joy and friendly competition, families and friends forged stronger bonds.
