The seventh annual TEDx Youth event closed with the theme “Making Waves” in the presentation hall. Led by ELL teacher Ms. Nunes, the Tedx crew put together a speech run that showcased eighth graders Elly Song and Hailey Lee, Junior Oliver Park, Sophomore Chirayu Joshi and secondary science teachers Mrs. Marchan and Mr. Hortezuela on March 18. Despite lower participation, the six speakers created a more focused lineup, fostering better engagement.
Over the span of four months, the speakers prepared their presentations through revision, feedback and consistent practice. With presentations addressing academic pressure, identity and personal growth. Mr. Hortezuela’s speech on navigating life’s uncertainties resonated with many students, offering practical insights and encouragement. In addition, Joshi introduced the concept of “teenagerism,” highlighting its role in helping adolescents better interpret and articulate their personal experiences. The speeches left a lasting impression on the audience, encouraging students to reflect and approach challenges with greater confidence.

I think that the TED X speeches were all fun and interesting! The topics of each speaker was really good and I really enjoyed it. I also really liked that two 8th graders did the TED X speech, and even though they were the youngest among the speakers, their speeches were all amazing!
