Elementary students, parents and teachers assembled on campus for the annual Family Fun Night hosted by the MSSC (Middle School Student Council) on Friday, Oct. 4. The evening overflowed with laughter and playful competition as families danced, raced, and played side by side.
MSSC members and teacher chaperones led cooperative game stations such as Zumba, dodgeball, relay races, Minute to Win it, crazy soccer, and obstacle courses. Their coordination kept the night running smoothly. “The most exciting part of the event is Zumba because you can see a lot of kids and parents having fun dancing together,” said Vice President Olivia Park.
Students enjoyed the various sessions, ranging from active sports to silly activities. Hannah Makita in second grade said, “The Oreo activity was really fun. I was kind of sad I didn’t win, but I was happy because we got the Oreos. My younger sister was moving a lot, and she just broke the cookies a lot, but it was fun.”
Parents joined in on the activities as well. Cian Kim in second grade said, “[I liked] the parents hula hooping because it’s fun to see them struggle and my second favorite was the crazy soccer because I got to play with the parents.”
Participants found opportunities to connect and share cherishable moments with their loved ones. “What I enjoyed about the event was watching families play with their kids, because you don’t get to see that all the time,” said Mrs. Jolly, MSSC advisor.
As the evening fell, families left with tired bodies but joyful memories. The mix of fitness, teamwork, and friendly rivalry strengthened DIS spirit and deepened bonds. First grader Sean Lee’s father said, “If this event happened next year I would definitely be happy to join again.”
