As a fourth-year, 고인물 (veteran) editor-in-chief of the Jets Flyover, I’ve edited more articles than I can count. While I always strive to bring out the best in each piece, these five articles I edited in 2025 stood out for their particularly poignant narratives or the memories they bring back.
For some pieces, I gravitated toward the ‘heart’ of the article. Bonnie’s piece on students’ rights to express their opinions at school resonates with any student who has been silenced in one way or another, including myself. Kelly’s news story on the National Scholastic Journalism Conference brings back fond memories from Nashville, from the sessions I presented to the awards our team won, and even how Annie went on her shopping spree to make up for her lost luggage.
For others, the storytelling brought the piece to life. Eugene’s interviews with the owner of Guk-mi Munbang-gu opened my eyes to the hardship that stationery stores from my childhood face today. Nayoung’s videography and editing on her feature of Jjokbang-chons brought chills down my spine as I witnessed a part of Daegu I had never seen before.
As I prepare to sign off and head to college, these five pieces remind me of the heart of storytelling: find a topic that resonates with you and bring it to life with interviews and your journalistic flair.
