DEIB Consultant Jessica Wei Huang returns to DIS for second annual EARCOS Weekend Workshop

Students and faculty from Daegu International School, Korea International School and the International School of Beijing came together in the Jetnasium for the second East Asia Regional Council of Schools (EARCOS) Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Workshop. DEIB consultant Jessica Wei Huang returned and provided fresh insights on leadership development.

The workshop kicked off with an introspective “Identity Mandala” activity that allowed students and adults to forge connections by sharing each other’s roots, relationships, important events, and core hopes and beliefs. This set the stage for personal, deeper discussion around microaggressions. Subsequently, participants examined specific phrases of identity-based harm.

To conclude the event, Huang shared her secret to building a successful workshop through effective, imaginal, conceptual and practical keystones. All participants applied the skills they learned and designed their own workshop plans.

Leanne Yoon, Editor in Chief

Leanne Yoon, dubbed as “Lenny” by her close friends, (finally) joins the Journalism class in her junior year as the Editor-in-Chief of the Jets Flyover. DIS veteran Selina Son makes her mark in her final year on the Jets Flyover staff. With confidence, extroversion, and a dash of charisma, she jumps from classroom to classroom to share her hot takes. From social issues to science conspiracies, Selina knows it all. As the president of SOAR and string orchestra, Selina graces the campus with bubbles of entertainment and joy.

Alex Seo enters freshman year with a new style of his own. His enthusiasm for journalism and the Flyover spreads to his friends every Friday when he shares school news and local stories. A scholar-athlete, he anticipates his success in high school sports, especially since he served as the captain for the middle school volleyball and futsal teams. Alex plans to further craft his journalist chops this year. He can't wait to gain invaluable personal experiences as a high schooler.
