The Jets celebrated the beginning of a new school year with a warm welcome at Back to School Night on Aug. 23. Through the combined efforts of student volunteers and the administration, both new and returning families received valuable insight into the new academic curriculum and the latest campus updates.
Similar to last year, elementary and kindergarten instructors hosted presentations in their respective classrooms, and secondary teachers delivered a joint slideshow in the Jetnasium covering a range of disciplines.
While middle and high schoolers joined their parents in venturing into the curriculum, elementary students enjoyed movie night in the presentation hall. “Movie night was organized to engage kindergarteners and elementary students while parents attended teacher meetings. I think it was well done, as reflected in the positive feedback from parents,” said Elementary Principal Mr. Vis.
At the same time, high school volunteers from the Ambassadors’ Club facilitated the seamless transition from each activity. “After the basic presentation, we guided parents around the school throughout the whole event. We were all assigned to different floors and specific locations. I think it was really organized, as many people were helping out.” Ambassadors’ Club president senior Ryan Chae said.
Overall, parents shared a positive view of the event, commenting that it enhanced their understanding of their children’ s education. “Everything was set up so well, and I felt really welcomed. Seeing my child’s classroom gave me a better understanding of their learning environment. I think this kind of event is truly necessary for all, but especially for newcomers,” sophomore Kaylie Jeong and second grader Kiana Jeong’s mom said.
Meanwhile, students enjoyed sharing their academic experiences with their parents. “It felt a little bit nervous, but I think it was fun because telling something my parents didn’t know was really exciting. I want to do it again,” second grader Evelyn Choi said.
Back to School Night wrapped up on a positive note, leaving families better informed and connected to the school community. With these shared experiences, parents, teachers and students enter the new year with confidence.
