In anticipation of a day filled with explosive fun, elementary students buzzed in excitement for the Science National Honor Society’s (SNHS) annual event: Science Fun Night. Young minds gathered in the Jetnasium on Nov. 2 to immerse themselves in four experiments and a trivia game.
After the previous cosmic-themed night, this year’s event embraced a hands-on approach with tactile enjoyment. “Last year, we had things like an area with neon activities, space features, and a backstage area,” Lewis Kim, a junior and SNHS member, said.
This time around, Science Night featured holograms. “[At the hologram station], we used plastic and folded it. Then, we put it on a phone, then put a video on the phone, and then, you could see an image. It was really fun,” Quincy Cameron in second grade said.
Similar to past science celebrations, slime tables blasted many participants with gooey excitement. “My favorite station is the slime station because I love slime, and they make slime. It is so good because it takes away stress, and it is a little sticky, so I love touching it,” said Celine Park in second grade.
The event turned the Jetnasium into a joyful laboratory. The closing trivia game topped off the experience and highlighted the fun side of STEM, bringing out the inner scientists of each enthusiastic student.
SNHS opened the school year with new and improved, hands-on education. Attendees went home with a better understanding of science and soft, gooey memories of slime, oobleck, and holograms. Look out for other informative events by SNHS.
