The Elementary School Student Council (ESSC) and Research Services for Immigrants and Refugees (RSIR) cooperated to host the DIS Day Camp on Oct. 21. Students from first to fifth grade signed up for the lively event.
The morning started with a warm-up round of Just Dance. Kids shook off their stiffness and prepared for four hours of fun. Then, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., they separated into grade-level groups and rotated through five stations that provided different activities and sports: volleyball, basketball, tag, futsal, and crafts.
Throughout the day, club members and several high school students who live around Esiapolis also volunteered to help out. The campus filled with laughter as the students ran from one station to another.
Snacks awaited the children after the exhausting series of activities. As they cooled down with the provided refreshments, they participated in a trivia game prepared by RSIR. The entertainment consisted of questions and information about immigrants and refugees around the globe.
Thanks to this elementary and high school coalition, kids returned home with huge smiles. They also took away valuable lessons about the world around us. RSIR plans to spend funds from the Day Camp for future events and meaningful donations.
