Daegu, a place where most students and faculties at DIS call home, hides unfound treasures across the city. From its scenic winding mountain trails to its cozy and atmospheric café corners, this city has something for all tastes. As the DIS community reflects the years spent in the city, they share spots that hold a special place in their hearts.

Because of a video production project, I went to Apsan Mountain in Daegu with my friends. I usually don’t go outside of my home on the weekends but ended up going. We had slushies, ice cream, and ramen from the convenience store for a snack. Ethan also brought some kimbap and tea for us, which we had at a rest stop at the top of the mountain. It was very delicious. The air was very good, and I think the boys also enjoyed everything. I definitely want to go there again.

This is a photo of Jesse Lingard and me. He’s a famous English football player. This was in Daegu IM Bank Park. My favorite memories there are my dad scoring goals and celebrating after the game. To celebrate, we go to the pitch and do a jumping ceremony.

This is Dongseong-ro’s 고기 굽는 남자, a samgyeopsal restaurant. The pork and doenjang-jjigae was delicious. It was someone’s birthday and we had gone downtown to celebrate. I remember Robert brought ice cream cake. We went there in advance to hide the cake, so we could later pop up and surprise everyone. We also went bowling afterwards and made some great memories.

This is the bathroom of my art academy. I really enjoy resting there after a long session of doing art. It’s really peaceful and a little place to take a break. I talk with my friends there and play on my phone. I once met a friend who I hadn’t seen for a while in there, and it was really nice to see her.

I went to a café called “버드소리” with Anna. Since Anna likes birds and I also enjoy animals, I thought it would be a good place to hang out. We saw a lot of birds there. I even got a great photo because a bird sat on my head. I gave them treats, so the birds really liked us. There were many different kinds of birds—big parrots, little parakeets—and lots of bird souvenirs. Anna bought a bird key ring, and I got a bird badge.

This is 바람숲 캠핑 야영장 in Palgongsan, and it’s a camping place. We set up a tent there and just camped. There are bathrooms and places you can wash dishes, but except that, it is just nature. I went with my dad, mom, and dog. Me and my dad love going camping, and we do the same thing every time, but it’s fun because we can eat meat and watch the fire. Watching fire is pretty entertaining.

I love Palgongsan and everything that has to do with nature. My favorite things to do there are hiking with friends and family. When I go to Palgongsan, either by hiking or by cable car, I like to eat pajeon at the restaurants there.

This is an escape room in downtown. I went there with Alex, Luke, and Matthew.. The escape room was a scary theme and we had two people in each separated room. We had to solve clues in each room to escape together. Since Luke is not a great problem solver, he took a long time alone stuck in a separate room. We had fun solving all the questions in the room and just playing around. We ate chicken together since it was cheap.

The Yeungnam University laboratory is my favorite place because it’s where I spend a lot of my free time outside of school. It’s also where I do a lot of my research on issues in the environment and the human body. One time, I almost spilled chemicals on myself but luckily had my lab coat on, so I was safe.

This is a restaurant where I had dinner with my grandfather, mother, and sister. We met because it was the first time I met my grandfather after moving to a new house. I ate meat with sauce and steak. After that, there was an ice cream corner so I had ice cream there.

This is a photo of me and my friends at the Samsung Lions Park. I love to watch baseball because I get to just zone out, cheer, and go crazy. I especially like this photo because it’s the one game the Lions won last year in the Korean series. It was against the Kia tigers. For food, we had pizza and chicken. We also randomly met a Youtuber who wanted to film with us, so now we’re in some videos. That was pretty fun. 최강 삼성 화이팅!

My favorite place in Daegu is the school campus. I just find a lot of peace and comfort being on a school campus and around colleagues who share the same passion for education that I have. Being around a bunch of excited and motivated kids just makes me happy, so I just feel at home on campus. My favorite time of day is in the morning, when I’m hanging out by the gate and just seeing everyone come to campus, saying hello. It’s exciting to know anything is possible this morning.
The memories that the beloved corners of Daegu carry is truly special. Each location offers its own flavor, creating a buffet of options to satisfy every unique palate. My go-to hangout with my friends is Daegu Futsal, where I burn off both stress and calories—just to refuel it with a delicious fried chicken spot nearby. My advice is to keep exploring the city. You never know what hidden treasures you can find.
