Jets Flyover staff members received accolades for Best of SNO recognition at the middle and high school Season 2 Assembly held in the Jetnasium on Feb. 4.
Presented by the Flyover’s web host, Student Newspapers Online (SNO), Best of SNO awards are highly competitive, with only 15 percent of thousands of submissions selected for publication each week. The honors recognize the exceptional work of student journalists within the SNO Network and celebrate their commitment to deliver quality content.
The Flyover’s success comes from an engaged audience that peruses new content every Friday during advisory. Students in grades six through twelve read articles and leave comments.
Gia Kim in grade seven, a fervent fan with an active commentator, praised the winners. “When I heard the news about the Best of SNO awards, I was really happy and proud of my friends and the Flyover as a whole. I think these awards showcase the writers’ dedication and hard work, along with Flyover’s strong teamwork,” said Kim.
The Flyover captivates readers with content beyond just campus news and DIS event coverage. “I love how Jets Flyover reports not only about our school but also on issues happening around the world,” said Aiden Shin from seventh grade. He believes that the content’s depth and variety sets the Flyover apart from others.

The publication’s influence extends beyond the student body currently enrolled at DIS. Former high schooler Solah Han remains an avid reader despite her departure two years ago. Even after relocating to a school in Michigan, she remains hooked by the consistent content and timely updates. “The best way to keep up with DIS news is by checking the Jets Flyover. I love how they shortly report everything that happened within a few weeks,” Han said.
A former staff member, Han explained the Flyover’s evolution over the years. “It’s crazy how much the Flyover had accomplished to this day compared to the time when I was a part of the club. I can’t wait for its new achievements in the future,” Han said.
Faculty members also advocate for the growth of the publication. Mr. Jolly, head of school, said, “Mr Lipsky’s efforts alongside the editors’ and writers’ talents have earned us the recognition.”
The Flyover progresses each year due to the constant support from the administration. “The school budgets a specific amount of money each year to promote Jets Flyover through the purchase of different cameras and equipment. We are now having discussions about upgrading some new items for next year,” Mr. Jolly said.
With a growing audience and widespread acclaim, The Jets Flyover continues its journey as a vital source of information and storytelling for the DIS community.
