Middle and high school assembly kicks off season two with performances and awards

Glider claps with energy on the beat of the song “HandClap.” Although it is his first appearance at the assembly, he warms up the audience for the upcoming shows.

Students and teachers gathered at the Jetnasium for the second middle and high school assembly of the school year on Feb. 4. Despite the absence of sports results from the second season, a Glider cameo appearance, rock band, Illusion, and Drama Club performances packed the event with energy.

In addition to the energetic visuals, the Drama Club diverged from its traditional play format. The members showcased a variety of original comedy sketches, which left the audience rolling in laughter.

In between the shows, DIS recognized STEM fair winners with trophies made by Fab Lab. From floating airplanes to biological discoveries, future scientists look forward to more experiments. Editors of the Jets Flyover also took the stage to honor “Best of SNO” winners.

As season two draws to a close, the DIS community looks ahead to the home stretch of the year and the final assembly.

Alex Seo enters freshman year with a new style of his own. His enthusiasm for journalism and the Flyover spreads to his friends every Friday when he shares school news and local stories. A scholar-athlete, he anticipates his success in high school sports, especially since he served as the captain for the middle school volleyball and futsal teams. Alex plans to further craft his journalist chops this year. He can't wait to gain invaluable personal experiences as a high schooler.

As a writer and illustrator, Sophia spends most of their free time drawing and listening to music. Additionally, their involvement in LOVE club leadership showcases their enthusiasm to foster diversity and inclusivity in the community. They love to explore multiple perspectives on controversial issues, and they aim to raise awareness of them with contributions to the Jets Flyover.

Esther Choi, Photographer and Broadcast Journalist

Esther, a bright-eyed bushy-tailed photographer, learned the art and skill of photojournalism just this year. Her passion for capturing moments and storytelling brought her to the DIS media team. Esther spends her time on the Competitive Debate Team and editing videos for the Jet Stream. She likes to argue with others with precision logic.
