The elementary futsal teams set off to the International School of Busan (ISB) for the SKAIS divisionals on Sept. 28. A competitive field with players from six schools awaited them. Unfazed by the challenge, both the girls and boys showed firm determination to seize the top spot in each of their divisions. They approached the game with calm confidence, ready to compete.
The A and B boys dominated the matches and maintained a strong lead throughout the day. With an undefeated record, both entered the finals, where they demonstrated their exceptional skill and easily secured their victory.
“I really liked playing with my friends and other schools, and I think we did really well because we won all of our games. I think we were the best at passing and working together to score goals,” said Louis Lee in fourth grade, the Most Valuable Player of the boys’ B division.
The boys’ C team also impressed with their talent and communication throughout the tourney. The A and B boys ranked first in their division, and the boys’ C lineup ended third.
Alongside the boys, the A and B girls went undefeated until team one’s final game of the day, where they faced Busan Foreign School (BFS) for the second time. While DIS outperformed BFS in their first matchup, they ultimately fell to the Sharks by two goals in the rematch.
However, the elementary varsity ultimately claimed the leading position in their division, scoring 12 goals throughout the day while allowing just two goals against them from BFS. The girls’ elementary junior varsity also took first place, while the C girls snagged a win against the ISB’s B group.
Mrs. Jolly, the elementary girls’ futsal team coach, said, “The girls were super resilient and determined, and I thought they represented DIS really well. It is really hard to pick one highlight of the day because the girls impressed me so much throughout the day and made so many amazing goals, but I was super impressed with our goalies. They stepped up, were brave, and made incredible saves by getting in front of shots that I don’t even want to get in front of.”
DIS left a powerful impact at the tournament and proved themselves as formidable opponents to watch out for at the finals on Nov. 13. As the Jets look ahead, both teams demonstrate complete dedication to their training and brim with excitement at every practice. They strive to bring their best game to the finals as they aim for gold.
